Pony Express Wind
Energy Center
The Pony Express Wind Energy Center in Brown and Nemaha Counties, Kansas will generate clean, American-made energy to meet the nation's growing electricity demand. This project will provide affordable, reliable energy to Kansans and hedge against volatility in electricity cost. The energy from the Pony Express project is projected to be some of the lowest cost electricity in the region.
The project will be a new source of steady, long-term income for participating landowners and counties through lease payments, Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) programs and property taxes, increased economic activity, and job creation.
Pony Express will employ up to 225 workers at peak construction and is expected to create 8 permanent operations and maintenance (O&M) jobs.

Millions of dollars will be paid directly to Brown and Nemaha County landowners over an estimated 30-year project life.
Wind power provides a new and significant source of income for landowners. Lease payments provide a steady stream of income, providing a welcome hedge against fluctuations in commodity markets.
Brown and Nemaha Counties will also receive annual payments throughout the life of the project. For the first 10 years of operations, Invenergy will make payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) to each county. From year 11 through the life of the project, Invenergy will pay full-freight property taxes.
